6th Baron Byron after a painting by Thomas Phillips circa 1885. During the Regency period, he was generally considered to be England’s greatest living poet and one with scandal attached to his name. He knocked off some narrative poems during a few all-night sittings with a brandy bottle and then sold ten thousand copies on the day of publication. Due to appalling scandal and condemnation, he left England in April 1816 and never returned, producing his best work in exile. he died in the year 1824.
